FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 4, PINE MANOR 3 (OVERTIME)

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Junior Stephanie Hunt’s (Brookfield, Conn.) goal 5:50 into overtime lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 4-3 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Pine Manor Wednesday afternoon at Hedley Field.

Hunt converted a feed from senior Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass.) on the golden goal for the visiting Buccaneers (5-7-1), who established a school single-season record for victories with the triumph.  Massachusetts Maritime grabbed an early 1-0 advantage just 2:46 into the contest when freshman Emma McNally (Mashpee, Mass.) converted a Hunt feed, but the host Gators (5-6) evened matters in the 18th minute on freshman Cassie Cavender’s (Clarksville, Tenn.) marker.  Hunt first marker of the day on a pass from Callinan in the 27th minute enabled the visitors to take a 2-1 edge at the break, but Cavender’s second goal of the match on a feed from freshman Kayla Brown (Ashland, Ky.) in the 60th minute knotted matters at 2-2 for Pine Manor.  Callinan’s unassisted tally in the 71st minute put the Buccaneers back on top, but an unassisted marker by freshman Marcella Martinez (Poway, Calif.) forged the final tie of the day for the hosts just 5:09 later to set up Hunt’s heroics in the extra session.

Freshman Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) earned her fifth win of the season with a three-save effort in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, while freshman Charley Lutz (Alexander City, Ala.) made five stops in net in the setback for Pine Manor.  The Buccaneers outshot the Gators by a 13-7 margin overall (9-6 on goal), but the hosts held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Pine Manor entertains Pratt in a non-league match on Sunday afternoon at Hedley Field that begins at 2:30 p.m.
