FINAL:              FITCHBURG STATE 3, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1

FITCHBURG, Mass. --  Freshman Alexandra Foster (Leominster, Mass.) made three saves to earn her fourth win of the season in goal as Fitchburg State received tallies from three different players in notching a 3-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Elliot Field.

Goals by junior Siobhan O’Connell (Abington, Mass.) and sophomore Maddie Medina (Pelham, N.H.) in the opening 7:31 of action staked the host Falcons (4-8, 2-2 MASCAC) to a 2-0 advantage at the break, but junior Stephanie Hunt’s (Brookfield, Conn.) eighth marker of the season just 4:35 after intermission sliced the visiting Buccaneers’ (4-6-1, 0-4 MASCAC) deficit in half.  Sophomore Jessica Hall (Dracut, Mass.) sealed Fitchburg State’s triumph with an insurance tally in the 78th minute of play, and Foster took care of the rest in net to account for the final margin.

Senior Victoria Floeck (East Taunton, Mass.) registered an assist on O’Connell’s goal for the Falcons, while freshman Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) made 11 stops in net in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  Fitchburg State outshot the Buccaneers by a 19-7 margin overall (14-4 on goal) and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday, October 15th when the Buccaneers head to North Adams, Mass. to square off with MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State hosts Dean in a non-league match on Wednesday evening at Elliot Field that begins at 7:00 p.m.
