FINAL:              SUFFOLK 6, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 2

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Juniors Jennifer Martin (Higganum, Conn.) and Alexandra Nagri (Salem, N.H.) each netted a pair of goals and an assist for five points as Suffolk overcame a two-goal first half deficit to post a 6-2 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Martin sliced the visiting Rams’ (10-9) 2-0 halftime deficit in half on a Nagri feed just 6:56 after intermission, and Suffolk took the lead for good on markers from junior Paola Ortez (Revere, Mass.) and sophomore Madelyn Whipple (Claremont, N.H.) in a 1:02 span just over 20 minutes later.  Nagri added her two tallies to sandwich Martin’s second goal of the night in the final 8:28 of action to cap the visitors’ six goal second half outburst, as the duo’s last two markers came in a 36 second span to account for the final margin.

Junior Jessica Harmon (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and sophomore Veronica Bernardo (Ludlow, Mass.) each added two assists in the triumph for the Rams, who trailed by two in the opening 22:45 of the contest after freshman Jessica Baldassini (Middleboro, Mass.) and junior Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) had given the host Buccaneers (5-9-1) the early edge.  Hunt provided the assist in Baldassini’s first collegiate tally before collecting her team-leading 11th goal of the fall on a feed from freshman Emma McNally (Mashpee, Mass.).

Sophomore Kirsten Weiker (Durham, N.H.) picked up her seventh win of the season with an eight save effort in goal for Suffolk, while freshman Sara Coffey (Norton, Mass.) made 10 stops in net in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Rams outshot the Buccaneers by a 23-13 margin overall (16-10 on goal) and held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks in claiming their third win in as many series meetings between the two schools.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Westfield State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale for both teams on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Suffolk heads to Providence, R.I. on Sunday afternoon to square off with Johnson & Wales in quarterfinal round action of the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships that begins at 5:00 p.m.
