Callinan, Carpenter To Serve As Women's Soccer Co-Captains For Second Straight Season

With the start of the Massachusetts Maritime women’s soccer season just three weeks away, preparations are continuing in earnest for Head Coach Ray Cabral and his Buccaneer squad.  And as the beginning of a new year draws closer, the veteran mentor has named two of his top returnees to serve as co-captains for the 2016 campaign.

Seniors Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Bourne) will serve in the captains’ roles for a second straight season this fall, as the duo has played a large role in the three most successful campaigns in school history over the course of their respective careers.  Callinan is back to anchor Massachusetts Maritime’s midfield after finishing the 2015 season tied for second on the team scoring list with five goals and three assists for 13 points, while Carpenter provides a steady presence in the Buccaneer backfield in starting 14 of 15 contests played a year ago.

“The leadership by example that Aoife and Kianna have demonstrated throughout their tenure in the program has provided an intangible quality that will be a key to our upcoming season,” Cabral, who is in his sixth year as Massachusetts Maritime’s mentor, said of his captains.  “They have set a high standard and expectation for excellence, and I know that they will continue to set those examples for their teammates both on and off the field.”

The Buccaneers kickoff their 2016 slate on Thursday, September 1st by heading to Leicester, Mass. to take on Becker in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
