Sylvia Named As MASCAC Football Defensive Player Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime senior free safety Michael Sylvia was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Saturday evening for his performance in the Buccaneers’ 34-21 victory over UMass Dartmouth at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

A native of Lincoln, Mass. and a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School, Sylvia recorded a pair of interceptions, including a 16-yard return that set up a touchdown, while adding seven solo tackles and three pass break-ups in the home triumph for Massachusetts Maritime.  On the season, Sylvia ranks fourth on the team in total tackles with 45 (including 37 solo stops), and he also ranks third on the squad with five passes defended.

 

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Buccaneers, who improved to 4-3 overall with the win, return to action on Saturday, November 2nd when Massachusetts Maritime travels to Framingham, Mass. to take on MASCAC leading Framingham State in a conference clash that kicks off at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
