Stanton Named As MASCAC Football Co-Offensive Player Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime senior quarterback Mike Stanton was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Saturday evening for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ 46-44 victory over Plymouth State at Clean Harbors Stadium.

A native of Quincy, Mass. and a graduate of North Quincy High School, Stanton amassed 260 yards of total offense and accounted for five touchdowns, including a school-record tying four through the air on distances of 28, 12, 44 and 18 yards.  Stanton completed 15-of-24 pass attempts for 203 yards and extended his school record with his 50th career touchdown pass, and he added 57 yards on the ground that included a two-yard scoring run as well as a key 4th-and-3 conversion in the closing minutes that enabled Massachusetts Maritime to run out the clock and secure its fifth triumph of the season.

Stanton, who shared the MASCAC honor with Framingham State senior running back Melikke Van Alstyne, went over the 7,300 career passing yards mark in yesterday’s win and enters his final regular season contest 137 yards shy of breaking his single-season passing yards record of 2,449 set in 2012.  He now shares the Buccaneer school single-game touchdown passes mark with three other quarterbacks, as the feat was last achieved by Joe DeFrank against Worcester State on September 23, 2006.

Massachusetts Maritime, now 5-4 overall on the season, wraps up regular season play next Saturday, November 16th by hosting rival Bridgewater State in the 35th Annual Cranberry Bowl Presented By Ocean Spray at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon EST.
