Bennett Earns Spot On D3football.com Team Of The Week Presented By Scoutware

Massachusetts Maritime junior wide receiver E.J. Bennett earned a spot on this week’s D3football.com Team of the Week Presented By Scoutware for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ 37-27 setback at Westfield State last Saturday.

A native of East Wareham, Mass. and a graduate of Wareham High School, Bennett hauled in 15 receptions (two shy of his school record of 17 catches set on September 28th at Worcester State) and shattered the school single-game receiving yards mark with 274 while snaring three touchdown passes of 24, 2 and 68 yards, the latter which tied the game early in the fourth quarter.  Bennett topped the previous school receiving yards record of 230 set by Dan Reading on October 30, 1999 against Nichols.

Through the first six games of the season, Bennett has hauled in 51 receptions for 696 yards and nine touchdowns, as he currently ranks fourth in school history with 1,574 career receiving yards.  He is on pace to shatter his school single-season marks for receptions (59) and receiving yards (857) that were set in 2012.  In this week’s NCAA Division III national statistical leaders, Bennett is ranked fourth in touchdown receptions, ninth in receptions per game, 12th in receiving yards per game and 13th in total receiving yards.

Bennett is the second Buccaneer to earn a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week Presented By Scoutware this season, as junior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) copped the accolade at return specialist for his performance in Massachusetts Maritime’s season-opening 24-20 Chowder Bowl victory over SUNY-Maritime.

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Buccaneers, who stand at 3-3 on the season, host UMass Dartmouth in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon EDT.
