Kwedor Named As MASCAC, ECAC New England Pitcher Of The Week; Earns Spot On D3baseball.com National Team Of The Week
Massachusetts Maritime sophomore lefthander Kevin Kwedor continues to receive regional and national recognition after pitching the 25th perfect game in NCAA Division III history last week, as today he collected three additional honors following that achievement.
A native of Marshfield, Mass. and a graduate of Marshfield High School, Kwedor was named as both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference and ECAC Division III New England Pitcher of the Week, and he was also the lone New England representative on this week’s D3baseball.com National Team of the Week. Kwedor retired all 21 batters faced in a 4-0 Patriots Day victory over MCLA at Commodore Hendy Field, as he struck out six, included seven ground ball outs and eight fly ball outs while throwing 60 of his 89 pitches for strikes. His perfect game was the first in the 42-year history of the Buccaneer baseball program and came in just his fourth collegiate start.
Kwedor finished the season with two victories and a 2.73 earned run average in eight overall appearances, including five starts. In 33 innings of work, he struck out 26 and held opponents to a .254 batting average. Kwedor’s efforts helped lead Head Coach Bob Corradi’s squad to 15 overall wins this spring, Massachusetts Maritime’s highest victory total in six years.
