FINAL: JOHNSON & WALES 4, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1
CRANSTON, R.I. -- Freshmen Carlos Sanabria (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Ryan Cabral (Hope, R.I.) each rapped out a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead Johnson & Wales to a 4-1 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Complex.
The host Wildcats (6-0) snapped a scoreless tie in the fifth on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Brandon Cesino (North Scituate, R.I.), and Johnson & Wales broke things open with a three-run sixth inning rally that featured run-scoring singles from Sanabria and Cabral. The visiting Buccaneers (1-3) got on the board in their final at-bat when freshman Aidan Desrosiers (North Attleboro, Mass.) plated senior Brendan O’Kane (Pocasset, Mass.) on an RBI groundout to close out the scoring, as sophomore Jake Marchesseault (Wyoming, R.I.) tossed seven innings of five-hit relief with four strikeouts to earn his third win of the young season on the mound for the unbeaten hosts.
Junior Rob Bocchetti (East Meadow, N.Y.) joined Sanabria and Cabral with two hits as a part of an eight-hit attack for Johnson & Wales, while junior Bobby Rosano (North Reading, Mass.) rapped out two of Massachusetts Maritime’s five hits on the day. Senior Keith Sanchez (Monroe Township, N.J.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers, allowing four hits and a run while fanning three over the first five frames in falling to 0-2 on the spring.
Massachusetts Maritime’s scheduled non-league doubleheader with Rivier that was set for Sunday afternoon has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions, as the Buccaneers will now open their home slate on Thursday afternoon by hosting Becker in a non-league outing at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 4:00 p.m. Johnson & Wales entertains Thomas in a non-league twinbill on Sunday afternoon at the Scotts Complex that begins at 1:00 p.m.
