O'Kane, Sanchez Named As 2014 Baseball Co-Captains

Though the cold of winter pervades across Cape Cod, the first pitch of the Massachusetts Maritime baseball season is just over two months away.  As the Buccaneers prepare for their upcoming 32-game schedule, Head Coach Bob Corradi has named his co-captains for the 2014 campaign.

Seniors Brendan O’Kane and Keith Sanchez have been tabbed by the veteran mentor to those leadership roles for his 42nd season at the helm on Taylor’s Point.  O’Kane, a native of Pocasset, Mass. and a graduate of Bourne High School, batted .294 with a pair of triples while handling all 28 chances in the outfield flawlessly in 25 appearances (12 starts) last spring, while Sanchez, a native of Monroe Township, N.J. and a graduate of Monroe Township High School, posted a pair of wins in 15 appearances on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime in 2013, as he averaged a strikeout per inning and held opponents to a .248 batting average.

“Brendan and Keith have instilled the type of work ethic in their teammates that is expected in our program, and I know they will provide leadership by example both on and off the field,” Corradi, who enters the year three victories shy of the 550 career win plateau, says of his captains.  “They are great communicators that will keep us focused on reaching our goals this season.”

The Buccaneers begin the 2014 campaign on Saturday, March 1st by taking on Elizabethtown in the first of three contests on their annual Southern swing in Fort Pierce, Fla. beginning at 7:00 p.m. EST.
