BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers women's lacrosse team closed out their 2024 season on Friday evening with a 21-12 loss to Worcester State in conference play and finished the season 5-8, 2-4 in conference play.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captain Cassie Llewellyn tied for the game-high with five goals. Allie Dickinson and Sarah Naar each scored three times.Junior captain Lindsy Durgin added one goal.
  • Llewellyn tallied two assists, Durgin, Dickinson, and Naar all had one.
  • Llewellyn led all players in the game with six ground balls and tied for the game-high in draw controls with eight. 
  • Defensively, Senior captain Ally Reddish and Durgin each had two caused turnovers in the game.
  • In total, Maritime picked up 19 ground balls, were successful on 15-of-21 clears, won 15 draw controls, and took 25 total shots in the loss.

Worcester

  • Abigail Wing scored five times for the Lancers. Molly Witkowski added four goals of her own. McKayla Fisher netted three while Shea Jarvis, Shannon Donahue, and Abigail Vincent each had two. Ashley Hurley, Madigan Kelley, and Hannah Erickson all had one score.
  • Five Lancers had two assists in the game. Three more added once helper.
  • Sarah Melanson led Worcester with four ground balls. 
  • Kelley tied for the game-high in draw controls with eight.
  • Defensively, three players tallied two caused turnovers.
  • In total, Worcester picked up 20 ground balls, were successful on 17-of-20 clearances, won 21 draw controls, scored one 2-of-8 free position attempts, and took 41 total shots in the win.

How It Happened

The Lancers scored first at 12:51 of the first and added another at 12:33 to take a 2-0 lead early. Midway through the quarter, Win scored her first to make it 3-0 to the visitors. Naar scored for the Bucs at 6:25 to break up the shutout and make it 3-1 Lancers. Worcester scored two more at 6:10 and 5:26 to take a four-goal, 5-1, advantage. Llewellyn scored her first with 1:12 left in the quarter and the Lancers went on to score two inside of one minute to take a 7-2 lead at the end of one.

In the second quarter, Worcester's Jarvis scored 14 seconds in off the draw and the Bucs followed with goals from Llewellyn and Durgin, cutting the Lancer lead down to four goals, 8-4. Donahue scored for Worcester at 12:05 and Llewellyn matched it at 10:13. The Lancers went on a four-goal run from 8:49 to 7:19 and extended their lead to eight goals, 13-5. The Bucs didn't go away easily as they scored three before the half, two from Llewellyn and one from Dickinson. Worcester led at the break, 13-8.

In the third, Worcester scored a player down to run the score to 14-8. The bucs went on a three-goal run over the next three minutes with two scores from Dickinson and one from Naar to get within four, 15-11. Up by four, Worcester scored four over the last seven minutes of the third and took an 18-11 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Jarvis scored for Worcester 35 seconds into the fourth to go up eight. Naar scored on a power play to get it back to seven. That would be the only goal from the Buccaneers in the fourth and Worcester went on to score two more to take a 21-12 lead, the eventual final of the conference matchup.
