Dickinson Scores Five Time in Late Loss to Mariners

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Sunday mornnig, the Buccaneers played host to Maine Maritime for their annual matchup against the Mariners. For the third game this week Allie Dickinson led the Bucs in scoring with five goals. It was her second game this week with five goals. Ultimately, the Bucs fell to the Mariners late, 14-12.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Dickinson led the Bucs with five goals. 
  • Cassie Llewellyn added three goals and Lindsy Durgin and Sarah Naar each scored twice.
  • Llewellyn assisted on two goals. Durgin added two helpers and Brady Deschamps had one assist.
  • Llewellyn led all players with 11 draw controls.

Maine

  • Aubrey Mitchell scored five times in the victory. Hazel Stoddard and Lillian Diversi each scored three times.
  • Stoddard assisted on four goals. Bella Scolaro and Chloe Coombs each had two assists. 
  • Stoddard led the Mariners in ground balls and draw controls with five and eight respectively. 
  • Defensively, Mitchell led with four caused turnovers.
  • In total, Maine picked up 24 ground balls, were 12-for-17 on clearances, won 15 draw controls, went four-for-seven on free position shots, and took 24 total shots in the game.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers took an early 3-0 lead with four goals in the first five minutes of the game. Two came from Durgin, one from Dickinson. Maine went on to score two goals of their oven over the next two minutes from Stoddard and Mitchell to make the score 3-2. The Bucs matched Maine's two goals with two of their own from Llewellyn and Dickinson. Maine closed out the quarter with a Coombs goal to bring the score to 5-3 after one.

In the second, Stoddard scored first to bring her team within one goal, 5-4. At 9:49 of the second, Llewellyn scored and the teams traded goals until the 2:11 mark. At that point, the Bucs led the Mariners 7-6. To close out the half, Scolaro scored for the Mariners to tie the game, 7-7, at the break.

In the third quarter, Dickinson scored first to put the Buccaneers back on top. It took seven minute but Mitchell matched that goal to tie the game at 8-8. Naar added her second goal of the day at 5:39 of the third to put the Bucs in front again, 9-8. Like in the second, Scolaro closed out the third with a goal to tie the game at 9-9.

The fourth quarter began with a Mariners goal at 12:35 to give Maine their first lead of the game, 10-9. Dickinson tied the game back up at 10-10 at 11:36. Stoddard and Llewellyn scored for their respective teams from free position shots at 10:14 and 7:00 of the fourth and the teams were tied at 11-11 with seven minutes to play. Main would go back on top with a Diversi gol at 5:31 and Dickinson tied the game once again at 12-12 with 2:26 to play. Mitchell took control of the game in the final two minutes with two goals at 1:41 and with 32 seconds left to put the Mariners ahead, 13-12, and then seal the deal for Maine with a 14-12 win over the Bucs.

Maritime is off during the week and will play their next game next Saturday at Nichol College at 4pm.
