Women's Lax Loses Battle with Corsairs on the Road

DARTMOUTH, Mass -- Women's lacrosse traveled to UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday to take on the Corsairs in non-conference play. In the wind and rain of the South Coast, the Bucs lost to UMD, 18-4.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Allie Dickinson led the Bucs attack with two goals in the game. Lindsy Durgin and Sarah Naar each scored once.
  • Durgin recorded the only assist for Maritime.
  • Madison Selby picked up a team-high three ground balls in the game.
  • Durgin was the leader in draw controls for the guests with five. Dickinson recorded four.
  • Defensively, Brady Deschamps caused two turnovers.
  • In total, Maritime picked up 14 ground balls, were 12-for-16 on clearances, won 10 draw controls, scored on one of two free position opportunities, and took 15 total shots in the game.

UMass Dartmouth

  • Maddy Allen scored five times to lead all scorers. Melanny Sanchez Alvarez scored four times in the win.
  • Widline Thomas scored three times and Lily Nees, Hannah Mitus, and Jennifer Lins all scored twice. 
  • Nees tallied four assists for the Corsairs with Alvarez and Lins recording two, Thomas and Mitus each had one helper. 
  • Alvarez picked up a team-high four ground balls and Thomas won a game-high seven draw controls. 
  • Defensively, Alvarez led all players with three caused turnovers.
  • In total, UMD picked up 14 ground balls, were successful on 15-of-18 clear attempts, won 16 draw controls, scored on both of their free position opportunities, and took 26 total shots in the game.

How It Happened

Dartmouth jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring four times in the first five minutes. Maritime got on the board at 7:39 left in the first on Naars goal. The Corsairs went on to score five more goals in the first and led 9-1 after one quarter of play.

The Corsairs extended their unanswered run in the second quarter as they scored the only goals of the period netting six goals to run their streak to 11 goals. At the half, UMD led the Bucs, 15-1.

In the third, Dartmouth scored first to make it 12 in a row and make the score 16-1. Maritime scored the only two other goals in the quarter with one from Durgin and one from Dickinson. At the end of three quarters, the Corsairs led 16-3.

In the fourth, Dickinson scored first, her second of the game, and the Corsairs went on to score two more. UMD held the Buccaneers to four goals and won the game, 18-4.

The Buccaneers head to Curry College on Saturday for a non-conference game with the Colonels at 12pm.
