Dickinson Reaches 100 Point Mark in Loss to Bison

DUDLEY, Mass -- Women's lacrosse took on Nichols College in Central Mass on Saturday in non-conference play. Allie Dickinson scored three times and had three assists for the Bucs to reach 100 career points. Ultimately, the Bucs lost to the Bison by a final of 16-8.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Sarah Naar led the Bucs offense with four goals in the loss. Allie Dickinson added three goals and Cassie Llewellyn scored once.
  • Dickinson recorded a game-high three assists. Lindsy Durgin added two helpers for Maritime.
  • Buccaneers goalie Madison Selby led all players with four ground balls. 
  • Durgin was the Bucs leader on the draw with five draw controls. 
  • Defensively, Durgin, Brady Deschamps, and Emma Dintino all caused two turnovers.
  • In total, Maritime picked up 12 ground balls, were 15-for-21 on clearances, won 11 draw controls, went 0-for-4 on free positions shot, and took 24 total shots in the game.

Nichols

  • Hadley Houghton scored six times in the win for the Bison. Emma Patton added four goals of her own. 
  • Gabriella Mandirola, and Caitlin Welch both had two goal games. Makala Dube and Sarah King both scored twice.
  • Houghton recorded three assists, Welch and Dube had two helpers each.
  • McKenzie Muir picked up four ground balls for the hosts.
  • Houghton won seven draw controls to lead all players.
  • Defensively, Houghton and Patton both caused three turnovers.
  • In total, Nichols picked up 20 ground balls, went 18-for-23 on clearances, won 16 draw controls, were 1-for-6 on free position shots, and took 28 shots total. 

How It Happened

The Bison scored first just over four minutes into the game on Houghton's first of the day. Llewellyn tied the game for the Bucs 58 seconds later. With the score 1-1, Nichols scored four unanswered from 7:04 to 3:10 with two from Houghton and two from Patton. At 1:26, Naar scored for Maritime and Houghton added another Bison goal at 55 seconds left in the quarter. The Bison led the Bucs 6-2 at the end of one.

In the second, Nichols scored three more unanswered over a 12 minute period and were up 9-2 with 3:25 left in the half. Naar scored her second on a power play at 2:17 to make the score 9-3. King scored the next goal for the Bison with 23 seconds left in the half and Dickinson scored for Maritime with 10 seconds left. Nichols led Maritime, 10-4, at the halftime break.

In the third, Nichols outscored the Bucs 2-1 as it was the lowest scoring quarter of the game. Mandirola scored at 8:25 followed by Naar for Maritime at 4:10. Patton scored the last goal of the third at 1:46 and the Bison led 12-5 at the end of three.

Naar opened the scoring in the fourth to get the Bucs within six. Then, Nichols scored four unanswered with two from Houghton, one from Welch, and another from Mandirola. In the final 1:21 of the game, Dickinson scored twice to make the score 16-8, the eventual final score of the game in favor of the Bison.

The Bucs are back on the road for their next game on Wednesday, March 20th against UMass Dartmouth. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
