Durgin Reaches 100 Career Points in Conference Loss to Westfield

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Westfield State on Friday night in conference play and though the Buccaneers kept the game close in the first half, the Owls ran away with the game in the second half winning by a final score of 25-11. In the first half of the game, with two goals, junior captain Lindsy Durgin reached the 100 career point mark.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Sarah Naar led the Buccaneers in scoring with five goals. Lindsy Durgin netted three of her own. Cassie Llewellyn scored twice in the game and Allie Dickinson rounded out the scoring with one goal.
  • Llewellyn posted two assists and Dickinson and Sarah Schoote each had one assist.
  • Llewellyn led the Bucs in ground balls with four and in draw controls with six. 
  • Defensively, Grace Condinho and Caleigh Tompkins each had two caused turnovers.

Westfield

  • Arianna Andresen led all scorers with six goals and Willow Romo scored five. Kiely Hafensteiner and Natalie DeMaio both scored four times.
  • Mollie Pacheco scored twice and four other Owls eached scored once. 
  • Lindsey Bohenko had four assists in the game. Andresen and Mercedes Rozzi both had three assists. Hafensteiner added two assists and four other Owls recorded one assist.
  • Mykenzie Black led the team in ground balls with four.
  • On the draw, Rozzi led Westfield with seven draw controls.
  • Defensively, Black led the team with four caused turnovers.
  • In total, Westfield picked up 25 ground balls, were successful on 11-of-15 clears, won 26 draw controls, converted on seven of 12 free position shots, and took 39 total shots in the win.

How It Happened

Westfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the first eight minutes of the first quarter. The Bucs got on the board with Naar's first of the night at 7:01 and the bucs trailed 4-1. Pacheco netted one for Westfield to put the visitors back up four goals, 5-1. Maritime then scored two in a row, both from Llewellyn, to cut the deficit to two goals, 5-3. Hafensteiner closed out the first with a goal at 1:53 and the Owls led, 6-3, at the end of one.

In the second, Westfield scored first to extend the lead back to four goals, 7-3. Naar and Durgin then scored to pull back within two, 7-5. The teams traded goals in a 16-second span with Hafensteiner scoring for Westfield and Dickinson scoring for the Bucs. Up 8-6, the Owls scored two to hit double digits and led the Bucs 10-6 midway through the second. The Buccaneers outscored the Owls in the final 6:09 of the half with Goals from Naar, Durgin, her 100th career point, and Naar again, while Westfield got two from Bohenko and Andresen. Westfield led at the brea, 12-9.

In the third, the Owls turned up the offense and outscored the Bucs in the quarter 10-1. At the end of the third, Westfield had a commanding, 22-10, advantage.

Westfield outscored the Buccaneers again in the fourth allowing just one goal, from Naar, that came with 28 second left in the game. In the quarter, Westfield added three goals of their own and took their win back to Westfield by a final of 25-11.
