Rams Best Buc in Conference Opener

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- The Buccaneers women's lacrosse team took on a tough Framingham State team in their conference opener on Saturday. The Bucs fell to 0-1 in conference play in the game by a final of 20-7.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Allie Dickinson led the Bucs in scoring with three goals. 
  • Sarah Naar added two goals for the Buccaneers. Cassie Llewellyn and Brady Deschamps each had one goal.
  • Llewellyn led the team in assists with two. Lindsy Durgin and Dickinson each had one assist to their credit.
  • Durgin led the team with four draw controls and Deschamps had three. 
  • Defensively, Ally Reddish caused two turnovers for the Bucs. 
  • In total, Maritime picked up one ground ball, were successful on 9-of-17 clearances, won 12 draw controls, went 1-for-7 from free position shots, and took 18 total shots in the game. 

Framingham State

  • Rachel Erickson scored five times to lead all scorers.
  • Hannah Guerin netted four goals, Leah Green, Regan Fein, and Molly Lanier each had three goals. Brandi Core scored twice in the win.
  • Guerin led the team in assists with four. Julianna Guzi tallied three helpers and Alessia Lye and Fein each had two.
  • Erickson led all players with nine draw controls. 
  • Defensively, Green caused three turnovers for the Rams.
  • In total, Framingham picked up 13 ground balls, were successful on 9-of-11 clears, won 18 draw controls, went 4-of-5 on free position shots, and took 38 shots in total.

How It Happened

The Rams jumped out to an early lead in the first scoring the first six goals of the game to go up 6-0 just over five minutes in. Deschamps scored for the Bucs at 9:16 of the first to break up the shutout and the unanswered streak by Framingham. The Rams scored one more before the end of the quarter and led 7-1 after one.

In the second, Framingham Scored the first two goals of the quarter and Dickinson scored the Bucs second at 12:05. After another Framingham goal, making the score 10-2, Naar and Dickinson went back-to-back to cut the deficit to six goals, 10-4. Framingham went on to score four more times before the end of the half and led the Bucs by 10 goals, 14-4, at the break. 

Framingham was the only team to score in the third with six goals to give them a 20-4 lead going to the fourth.

In the fourth, the Buccaneers were the only team to score with a powerplay goal from Llewellyn, another from Dickinson, and one more from Naar. The Bucs scored but it wasn't enough as they lost their conference opener, 20-7.
