FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 15, WENTWORTH 7

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) netted four goals and a pair of assists for six points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 15-7 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Wentworth Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Hunt collected all four of her tallies in the opening 9:15 of action to help stake the host Buccaneers (3-2) to a 5-1 advantage, and after junior Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) sliced the visiting Leopards’ (2-6) deficit back to three with 13:28 remaining in the first half, Massachusetts Maritime netted the final five goals before intermission that included a pair off the stick of freshman Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.) to take a 10-2 edge at the break.  Wentworth used a four-goal run over the first 18-plus minutes after intermission to close back to within six thanks to three straight tallies by freshman Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) over that stretch, but the hosts netted five of the final six scores of the day to ice their first triumph in three series meetings between the two schools.

Overstreet and junior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) each netted hat tricks and added two assists to finish with five points in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a hat trick from junior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.).  Senior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Meghan Doherty (Malden, Mass.) added single tallies for the Buccaneers, who also received four assists off the stick of junior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).

Paradis notched four goals and an assist to finish with five points in the setback for Wentworth, which also received markers from graduate student Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) and junior Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.).  Senior Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) and freshman Kaleigh Stirrat (Saugus, Mass.) recorded assists as well for the Leopards, who committed 27 turnovers on the afternoon.

Sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a 14-save effort, while senior Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) made 23 stops in the setback for Wentworth as the Buccaneers outshot the Leopards by a 41-28 margin overall (38-21 on goal) for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday, April 2nd when the Buccaneers host MCLA in their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Wentworth heads to Bristol, R.I. on Tuesday afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference clash with Roger Williams that begins at 4:00 p.m.
