FINAL:              SUNY-MARITIME 10, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 8

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Jane Quinn (Oakdale, N.Y.) netted a hat trick and an assist for four points to lead SUNY-Maritime to a 10-8 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime in opening round play of the Second Annual Maritime Lacrosse Classic Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Privateers (1-0) trailed by a 5-2 margin with 13:55 remaining in the opening half after junior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) converted a free position shot for the host Buccaneers (0-1), but SUNY-Maritime stormed back to score four times in the final 7:52 before intermission to take a 6-5 advantage at the break, as sophomore Andrea Mitchell’s (Pine Bush, N.Y.) marker with one second to play in the half gave the visitors the lead for good.  Massachusetts Maritime closed back to within one on Solari’s second goal of the night with just under 21 minutes remaining, but tallies off the sticks of Quinn and Mitchell that came just 2:39 apart gave the Privateers a 9-6 cushion with 16:41 to play.  Freshman Erica Overstreet’s (Bridgewater, Mass.) first collegiate goal pulled the Buccaneers back to within two with just under 11 minutes remaining in the match, but senior Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y.) iced SUNY-Maritime’s triumph by completing a hat trick of her own with 1:39 remaining to give the visitors their second straight win in the series between the schools.

Freshman Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y.) collected a goal and an assist in the victory for the Privateers, who also received a helper off the stick of freshman Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y.).  Solari and sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) each notched a pair of goals and two assists for four points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of tallies from Overstreet as well as single markers off the sticks of juniors Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) and Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.).

Junior Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal for SUNY-Maritime with a seven-save effort, while sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made six stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Buccaneers held a 19-18 advantage in total shots for the contest, but the Privateers recorded a 16-15 edge in shots on goal on the evening.
