Alumni Field, Leicester, Mass.

FINAL:                   BECKER 12, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 10

LEICESTER, Mass. --  Senior Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) snapped a 9-9 tie with a pair of goals in the final 7:14 of action to lift Becker to a 12-10 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday evening at Alumni Field.

The host Hawks (3-8) jumped out to a 7-4 halftime advantage and extended that margin to 8-5 on senior Victoria Belcher’s (Seekonk, Mass.) man-up goal just 2:03 after intermission, but the visiting Buccaneers (4-3) evened matters with three unanswered tallies, including a man-up marker by sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) that forged an 8-8 draw with 13:04 remaining.  The two teams traded scores before Ruyack struck twice over a 1:13 span to give Becker an 11-9 edge with 6:01 to play, and after Hunt’s goal with 1:56 remaining enabled Massachusetts Maritime to creep back to within one, sophomore Meghan Bealka’s (Freetown, Mass.) man-up tally with 45 seconds to play iced the hosts’ triumph.

Ruyack, Belcher and junior Erika Galdamez (Concord, Calif.) each notched hat tricks and an assist in the win for Becker, which also received a pair of tallies and a helper from Bealka to go with a marker off the stick of senior Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.).  Hunt finished with a game-high five goals and an assist for six points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a hat trick from freshman Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.).  Junior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) and freshman Meghan Doherty (Malden, Mass.) also tallied for the Buccaneers, who received an assist from junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).

Freshman Nikolle Storey picked up the win in goal for the Hawks with a 13-save effort, while sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made six stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  Each team had 29 total shots for the contest, with the Buccaneers holding a 23-18 edge in shots on goal for the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Saturday evening to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Becker travels to Longmeadow, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to square off with Bay Path in a New England Collegiate Conference clash that begins at 1:00 p.m.
