BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) netted five goals and an assist for six points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 12-3 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Maine maritime in the annual Admiral’s Cup match played Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium, as the contest came in the final round of the Second Annual Maritime Lacrosse Classic.

 

The host Buccaneers (1-1) scored the first seven goals opening 21 minutes of the contest, as sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) chipped in with a first half hat trick in helping stake Massachusetts Maritime to an 8-1 advantage at the break.  Senior Rachael Redles’ (Coopersburg, Pa.) marker seven minutes after intermission sliced the visiting Mariners’ (0-2) deficit to six, but the Buccaneers iced their triumph by netting three unanswered tallies in a 5:41 span (including two off the stick of Murphy) to claim their second straight Admiral’s Cup win.

 

Hunt added an assist to finish with four points on the day for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of goals and a helper from junior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Freshman Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.) added a marker and assist for the Buccaneers, who also received a tally from senior Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) and a helper from freshman Brittany Munson (Tolland, Mass.).

 

Redles netted two goals to finish the tournament with five tallies for Maine Maritime, which also received a marker off the stick of freshman Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.).  Sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a six-save effort, while freshman Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) made 16 stops in net for the Mariners as the Buccaneers outshot Maine Maritime by a 36-13 margin overall (28-9 on goal) and forced 25 turnovers.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Coast Guard in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Maine Maritime travels to Purchase, N.Y. next Saturday afternoon to take on SUNY-Purchase in a non-league match that begins at 2:00 p.m.
