BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Christina Murphy (Foerstdale, Mass.) netted a hat trick to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 10-7 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Coast Guard Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (2-1) snapped a 3-3 tie with three goals, including a pair off the stick of sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.), in the final 1:28 of the opening half to take a 6-3 advantage at the break, and markers by Murphy, senior Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) and junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) in the first 14:15 after intermission capped a six-goal run that gave the host a 9-3 cushion.  Sophomore Daria McKenna (Mystic, Conn.) keyed a four-goal run by the visiting Bears (1-5) over a 6:21 stretch with a hat trick of her own that sliced Coast Guard’s deficit to 9-7 with 7:25 to play, but freshman Erica Overstreet’s (Bridgewater, Mass.) second tally of the night with 4:15 remaining ended the visitors’ run and sealed the Buccaneer triumph.

Hunt and Overstreet each finished with two goals and an assist for three points in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker and helper each from Boyle and junior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Junior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) added two assists for the Buccaneers, who also received a helper off the stick of freshman Meghan Doherty (Malden, Mass.) to avenge a setback suffered to Coast Guard in the first meeting between the schools last spring.

Senior Kaitlin Dickson (Huntington Station, N.Y.) collected a pair of goals and an assist in the setback for the Bears, who also received tallies from freshmen Carter Sanderson (Stillwater, Minn.) and Anne McGoldrick (Glenside, Pa.) as well as helpers from junior Sierra Webb (Great Falls, Va.) and sophomore Jackie Kokomoor (Groton, Conn.).  Sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with an eight-save effort, while sophomore Angel Fay (Culver, Ind.) made six stops in the setback for Coast Guard as the Bears outshot the Buccaneers by a 22-18 margin overall for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston on Saturday afternoon to take on Simmons in a non-league outing that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Coast Guard travels to Throggs Neck, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon to square off with SUNY-Maritime in a non-league match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
