BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Morghan Cassella (Lowell, Mass.) netted five goals and an assist for six points to lead Framingham State to a 13-10 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

 

The visiting Rams (9-6, 3-2 MASCAC) jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening 17:34 of action on the strength of two goals each by Cassella and sophomore Kimmy Foley (Mansfield, Mass.), but the host Buccaneers (4-8, 1-4 MASCAC) received three straight goals from sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) in netting four of the final five markers of the half to trail by a 7-5 margin at the break.  Framingham State regained a five-goal cushion with four tallies in a 4:11 span early after intermission to grab an 11-6 advantage on Cassella’s goal with 23:27 to play, and after the teams traded two goals each, Massachusetts Maritime crept back to within the final margin on a man-down marker by freshman Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.) and a goal by junior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) with 2:54 reminaing but came no closer.

 

Foley added a hat trick and an assist in the win for the Rams, who also received two tallies from junior Lindsay Nixon (Woburn, Mass.) as well as a marker and helper from freshman Erin Lally (Westwood, Mass.).  Junior Kristen Hoggins (Harvard, Mass.) collected a goal and a game-high four assists for Framingham State, which also received a tally from freshman Bailey Donelly (Framingham, Mass.), three assists from freshman Shae Riley (Fairhaven, Mass.) and a single helper off the stick of stick of junior Jessica Graham (Woburn, Mass.).

 

Hunt finished with four goals and three assists for a game-high seven points in the setback for the Buccaneers, who also received a hat trick and two helpers from Solari along with two tallies from Overstreet.  Senior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) added a goal on the day for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received single helpers off the sticks of juniors Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).

 

Freshman Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Bedford, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a 12-save effort for Framingham State, while sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made four stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Buccaneers outshot the Rams by a 30-23 margin overall (22-17 on goal) for the contest.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Monday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Framingham State hosts Bridgewater State in a MASCAC match on Wednesday afternoon in Framingham, Mass. that begins at 4:30 p.m.
