Crew Records Five Top Four Finishes In Solid Day Of Competition At UMass Lowell Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime crew team posted a pair of second place finishes during competition at the UMass Lowell Regatta on the Merrimack River Saturday afternoon, as the event included rowers from Assumption, Clark, Coast Guard, Colby, Franklin Pierce as well as host UMass Lowell.

The men’s varsity four consisting of freshman coxswain Matthew Lester (Monroe Township, N.J.) as well as freshman Maxwell Horton (Malden, Mass.) and sophomores Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.), Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.) and Robert Meyer (Rancho Murieta, Calif.) placed second with a time of 6:59.1, finishing 19 seconds behind the top entrant from UMass Lowell.

The women’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.), sophomores Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.) and Jordan Megee (Lakewood, N.J.) and freshmen Kelsie Brien (Methuen, Mass.) and Lauren Bateman (Newbury, Mass.) finished fourth in the competition with a time of 8:43.9, as Clark took top honors in the event.

The Buccaneer entrants in the men’s novice four placed second and third in the competition, as coxswain Lester, junior Mark Brien (Methuen, Mass.) and freshmen Frederick Santory (Land O’Lakes, Fla.), Raymond Burke (Braintree, Mass.) and Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.) were second in the “A” boat with a time of 7:12.8 while the “B” entry of freshman coxswain Devon Brodeur (Ashford, Conn.) and Brien, Santory, Burke and Jagielski posted a third place time of 7:46.2.

The men’s novice eight finished third behind Colby and Coast Guard in the final race of the day, as coxswain Brodeur and Jagielski, Burke, Santory, Brien and freshmen Andrew MacDonald (Franklin, Mass.), Tyler Fifield (Wakefield, Mass.), John Bambury (Billerica, Mass.) and Dylan Travers (Denver, Colo.) posted a time of 7:37.1.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action next Sunday morning (April 17th) by heading to Worcester, Mass. to square off with Amherst, Brandeis, UMass Lowell and host Clark on Lake Quinsigamond beginning at 9:00 a.m.
