Men's Novice Four Places Fourth In Petite Finals For Crew At 2011 New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men’s crew team posted a strong performance at the New England Championships on Saturday afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond.

The men’s novice four consisting of freshman coxswain Matthew Lester (Monroe Township, N.J.) as well as fellow freshmen Dylan Travers (Denver, Colo.), Samuel Williamson (Media, Pa.), Andrew MacDonald (Franklin, Mass.) and Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.) placed fourth in the petite final with a time of 7:53.537, as Vermont took top honors in the event with a time of 7:36.546.  The Buccaneers placed fifth in a very competitive second heat in the event with a time of 7:53.918, as WPI advanced to the finals with a time of 7:17.010.

The men’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass..) as well as freshman Maxwell Horton (Malden, Mass.) and sophomores Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.), Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.) and Robert Meyer (Rancho Murieta, Calif.) took top honors in the tertiary final with a time of 7:27.166 to best Roger Williams by just under two seconds.  The Buccaneers placed fifth in the first heat with a time of 7:25.166 in a race won by the University of Rhode Island with a time of 6:52.836.

The Buccaneer women’s varsity four was forced to scratch just prior to the race due to injury.

Massachusetts Maritime closes out the 2011 spring schedule next Saturday at the UMass Lowell Dana Skinner Regatta on the Merrimack River.
