Crew Opens Spring Campaign With Solid Performances In Dual Competition At Amherst

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.--  The Massachusetts Maritime crew opened its 2011 spring season with dual competition against Amherst on Saturday afternoon.

The men’s varsity four consisting of freshman coxswain Matthew Lester (Monroe Township, N.J.), freshman Maxwell Horton (Malden, Mass.) and sophomores Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.), Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.) and Robert Meyer (Rancho Murieta, Calif.) finished third with a time of 7:32, while the women’s varsity four of freshman coxswain Alexander Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.), sophomores Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.), Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.) and Jordan Megee (Lakewood, N.J.) and freshman Kelsie Brien (Methuen, Mass.) finished fourth with a time of 10:57.6.

The men’s novice four consisting of coxswain Lester as well as fellow freshmen Jagielski,  Dylan Travers (Denver, Colo.), Tyler Fifield (Wakefield, Mass.) and Andrew MacDonald (Franklin, Mass.) finished second with a time of 9:21.9, while the men’s second novice four of sophomore coxswain Delphine Estebe (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshmen Samuel Williamson (Media, Pa.), John Bradford (Rockport, Mass.), Connor Ahern (Southbury, Conn..) and John Bambury (Billerica, Mass.) finished second with a time of 9:26.9.

The Buccaneers return to action next Saturday afternoon by hosting UMass Lowell in dual-competition at Herring Pond in Bourne, Mass. beginning at 9:00 a.m.
