Crew Squads Open 2010-11 Season With Solid Performances At Textile River Regatta

LOWELL, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime crew squads began the 2010-11 campaign with solid performances at the Textile River Regatta that took place Sunday on the Merrimack River.

The first men’s varsity four of seniors Jason Ellershaw (Chester, Mass.) and Ian Parsons (Westboro, Mass.), sophomores Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.) and Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore coxswain Angella Esposito (Boston, Mass.) finished 11th of 27 boats in the competition with a time of 22:36.6, as the Buccaneers bested collegiate squads Franklin Pierce, Colby, Vermont, New Hampshire and UMass Lowell in the event.

The second men’s varsity for of sophomores Robert Meyer (Rancho Murieta, Calif.), Ludvigs Vaivarins (Plymouth, Mass.), Jonathan DeMeo (Hanover, Mass.) and Joshua Lamm (Andover, Mass.), along with sophomore coxswain Janeen Manghis (Nantucket, Mass.), posted a time of 27:06.4.

On the women’s side, the first varsity four consisting of sophomores Delphine Estebe (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Danielle Guidry (Nashua, N.H.), Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.) and Emma King (Princeton, Mass.), along with sophomore coxswain Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.), placed 18th of 26 boats in the competition, as Massachusetts Maritime finished ahead of collegiate squads from Wesleyan, Assumption and Roger Williams.

Both Buccaneer squads return to action on Saturday, October 16th at the New Hampshire Championships in Pembroke, N.H.
