Crew Squads Compete In Prestigious Head Of The Charles Regatta Over Weekend

The Massachusetts Maritime crew team competed at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta over the weekend in Cambridge, Mass., as the Buccaneers’ men’s and women’s varsity fours went up against some of the best collegiate squads in the country.

The men’s varsity four consisting of sophomore coxswain Angella Esposito (Boston, Mass.), seniors Jason Ellershaw (Chester, Mass.) and Ian Parsons (Westboro, Mass.) as well as sophomores Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.) and Devin McNeil (Westford, Mass.) placed 39th of 41 competitors in the field after being struck by a shell from Middlebury. 

The women’s varsity four of sophomore coxswain Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.) and fellow sophomores Delphine Estebe (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Janeen Manghis (Nantucket, Mass.), Alicia Tarr (Danvers, Mass.) and Emma King (Princeton, Mass.) placed 29th of 30 competitors after becoming entangled with a shell from the University of Pittsburgh.

Both Buccaneer squads will close out their fall schedules on Saturday morning by competing at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
