Sailing Records Fourth Place Finish At New England Dinghy Tournament

New England Dinghy Tournament/Admiral Alymer’s Trophy

NEWPORT, R.I./BOURNE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team placed fourth in the New England Dinghy Tournament that took place over the weekend in Newport, R.I., while the Buccaneers also hosted the Admiral Alymer’s Trophy and placed 13th in the overall competition that took place on Great Herring Pond in Bourne.

The freshman tandem of Richard Graef (Zionsville, Ind.) and Kaitlyn Nanartovich (Newport, R.I.) posted a score of 70 points to lead the “A” squad at the New England Dinghy Tournament, while the Duxbury, Mass. sophomore duo of Michael Reney and Leo Connolly posted a score of 56 points to give Massachusetts Maritime a combined score of 126 points, as the Buccaneers bested rival Maine Maritime by 82 points in the competition.  UConn won the tournament with a score of 72 points, while Bates and Northeastern followed in second and third place, respectively.

Both Massachusetts Maritime tandems notched 161 points in competition at the Admiral Alymer’s Trophy, as freshmen Timothy Dexter (Manchester Center, Vt.), Matt Butler and Jennifer March (Pawtucket, R.I.) guided the “A” boat while freshmen Andrew Smith (Barnstable, Mass.) and Kyle Mahaffey (Southbury, Conn.) skippered the “B” entry.  The Buccaneers bested Maine Maritime by 68 points in the final competition, which was won by Boston College with a total score of 103 points.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action next weekend at both the Boston University and Brandeis Invitationals.
