Sailing Posts Pair Of Top 10 Performances At Coast Guard Clarke Open, Salve Regina Southern Series

Coast Guard Clarke Open/Salve Regina Southern Series

NEW LONDON, Conn./NEWPORT, R.I. --  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team recorded a pair of top 10 finishes in competition at both the Coast Guard Clarke Open and Salve Regina Southern Series over the weekend.

The tandem of juniors Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.), Jeffrey Gawrys (Marblehead, Mass.), Bradley Shepherd (Winter Park, Fla.) and Jason Pollock (Cataumet, Mass.), along with sophomore Brooke Johnson (Hingham, Mass.), finished fourth at the Coast Guard Clarke Open, as the Buccaneers bested New Hampshire, Mitchell and Williams in the competition that was won by Tufts on the Thames River.

Massachusetts Maritime placed 10th of 18 teams competing at the Salve Regina Southern Series off the coast of Newport, as the tandem of sophomore Michael Reney (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Kaitlyn Nanartovich (Newport, R.I.) posted a score of 86 points in the “A” boat while the freshman duo of Richard Graef (Zionsville, Ind.) and Mikayla Martin (Warwick, R.I.) notched 178 points in the “B” vessel for a combined score of 264 points.  Host Salve Regina took top honors in the competition with a score of 86 points, followed by Providence and Brown in second and third place, respectively.

Massachusetts Maritime returns to action next weekend at both the Boston University and Tufts Invitationals.
