Sailing Squads Record Solid Finishes In Competition At MIT Commonwealth, UNH Chris Loder Trophies

BOSTON, Mass./HANOVER, N.H. --  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team recorded a pair of solid performances in competition over the weekend at both the MIT Commonwealth Trophy and the University of New Hampshire Chris Loder Trophy.

The tandem of sophomore Andrew Labbe (Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Guttorm Straume (Boston, Mass.) posted a score of 158 points to finish ninth among teams competing in the A Division at the MIT Commonwealth Trophy, while the B Division duo of sophomores Santiago Enrique (Boston, Mass.) and Richard Lutter (Lunenburg, Mass.) placed 12th with a score of 210 points, giving the Buccaneers a 10th place overall team finish among 18 competitors.  Salve Regina took top honors in the team competition, with MIT and Boston University finishing as the runner-up and third place squads, respectively.

Sophomore Michael Reney (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Mikayla Martin (Warwick, R.I.) led Massachusetts Maritime to a ninth place finish in the A Division at the Chris Loder Trophy with a team score of 79 points, while the tandem of sophomore Leo Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Richard Graef (Zionsville, Ind.) placed 10th in the B Division with a score of 84 points, as the Buccaneers finished 11th of 19 competitors overall in the event with a score of 163 points.  Coast Guard took top honors in the final team standings to top runner-up Dartmouth and third place Bowdoin.

Massachusetts Maritime will field teams in the Ross, MIT Smith and Bowdoin Hewitt Trophies that will take place next weekend.
