Sailing Records Pair Of Top 20 Performances At Bowdoin Hewitt, MIT Smith Trophies

BRUNSWICK, Maine/CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team recorded a pair of solid performances in separate competitions over the weekend at both the Bowdoin Hewitt and MIT Smith Trophies.

The Buccaneers placed fifth of nine squads competing at Bowdoin with a combined score of 77 points, as freshman Richard Graef (Zionsville, Ind.) and junior Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.) finished fourth in the A Division with a score of 36 points.  The duo of sophomore Leo Connolly (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Jason Pollock (Cataumet, Mass.) were fifth in the B Division with a score of 41 points, as host Bowdoin took top team honors in the competition.

Massachusetts Maritime placed 20th of 26 teams competing at MIT over the weekend with a combined score of 423 points, as junior Robert Pierce (Natick, Mass.) and freshman Kaitlyn Nanartowich (Newport, R.I.) finished 23rd in the A Division with a score of 254 points.  The quartet of sophomores Santiago Enrique (Boston, Mass.), Richard Lutter (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Andrew Labbe (Warwick, R.I.), along with freshman Anders Straume (Boston, Mass.), finished 15th in the B Division with a score of 169 points.

The Buccaneers will be in action over Columbus Day Weekend at the prestigious Larchmont Storm Trysail on Long Island as well as at events at Bowdoin, Southern Maine and the University of Rhode Island.
