Sailing Places Fifth At Prestigious Navy MacMillian Cup

The Massachusetts Maritime sailing team placed fifth in the prestigious Navy MacMillian Cup during competition over the weekend in Annapolis, Md.

The crew consisting of seniors Philip Scott (Pocasset, Mass.), Rob Gallagher (Sandwich, Mass.), Devin Tetzlaff (Forestdale, Mass.), Michael Powers (Peabody, Mass.) and Christopher Morrow (Lorane, Ore.), juniors Jeffrey Gawrys (Marblehead, Mass.), Eric Pattison (Woodbury, Conn.) and Graham Philpot (Laconia, N.H.) as well as sophomore Michael Reney (Duxbury, Mass.) sailed ahead of St. Mary’s, New York Maritime, Army, Trinity and UConn during the competition.

The Buccaneers recorded first and second place performances in their final two races of the event, which was won by the host United States Naval Academy.

Massachusetts Maritime is scheduled to host the New England Frosh Championships and the Nickerson Trophy this weekend while also competing at the Coast Guard Erwin Schell Trophy and the New Hampshire Underdog Trophy.
