MacVarish Sets Pace As Men's Cross Country Records Solid 19th Place Finish At Westfield State James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Junior Jake MacVarish’s (Braintree, Mass.) 40th place individual performance led the Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team to a solid 19th place finish among 38 teams competing from across all divisions at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park.

 

MacVarish covered the 8K layout in a time of 27:26.82 in a field of 373 runners, while sophomore Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) followed in 71st place with a time of 28:11.02.  Sophomore Ryan McNeal (Canton, Ga.) was next for the Buccaneers with a 125th place time of 28:54.46, while freshman Nathaniel Decker (Bellbrook, Ohio) and sophomore Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with respective 169th and 191th individual finishing times of 29:40.45 and 30:07.17.

 

Union took top honors in the men’s competition with a team score of 100 points, while Saint Rose (131) and host Westfield State (140) followed in the runner-up and third place spots.  The Buccaneers finished second among six Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic College entrants in the event, topping Fitchburg State, Worcester State, MCLA and Framingham State along the way.

 

Both the Massachusetts Maritime men’s and women’s squads will head into Boston next Friday afternoon to compete at the Emmanuel Saints Invitational that begins at 4:00 p.m.
