DeTommaso, MacVarish Named As 2015 Massachusetts Maritime Men's Cross Country Co-Captains

Preparations are well underway for the upcoming Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country season, as first year Head Coach Chris Slattery has announced that senior Anthony DeTommaso and junior Jake MacVarish will serve as the Buccaneers’ co-captains in 2015.

DeTommaso, a native of Weymouth, Mass. and a graduate of Weymouth High School, has been a three-year letterwinner and a standout performer during his career at the Academy, as last year he helped Massachusetts Maritime take top honors in the Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational to go with a runner-up finish at the Elms Blazer Classic.  MacVarish, a native of Braintree, Mass. and a graduate of Norfolk County Agricultural High School, has enjoyed two stellar seasons for the Buccaneers, as he has been the squad’s top individual runner in 16 of his 17 collegiate races while garnering a total of five Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Runner and Rookie of the Week citations.

“Anthony and Jake have a veteran presence that commands respect and emulation, and they will continue to set the high standards of excellence that this program embodies,” Slattery, who served as a Buccaneer assistant for the last three seasons, says of his captains.  “They have high expectations of themselves and their teammates to be leaders in every aspect, both in and out of competition.”

Massachusetts Maritime begins the new season on Saturday, September 5th by hosting the 11th Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational alongside Cape Cod Canal beginning at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
