WATERFORD, Conn. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team closed out its 2015 campaign with a solid 44th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Memorial State Park.

Junior Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) set the pace once again for the Buccaneers, as he covered the 8K layout in a time of 27:41.7 to finish 170th individually in a field of 380 competitors.  Sophomore Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) was next in 183rd place with a time of 27:51.8, while freshman Nathaniel Decker (Bellbrook, Ohio) followed with a 273rd place time of 29:11.  Sophomore Ryan McNeal (Canton, Ga.) and freshman Ryan Nordstrom (Walpole, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective times of 30:02.8 and 30:42 that were good for 310th and 330th place, as Massachusetts Maritime topped Maine Maritime by 107 points in the final standings while finishing fifth among MASCAC entrants in the event.

Williams claimed the regional crown by one point over NESCAC rival Amherst (67-68), while Tufts finished third with a score of 80 points.

The Buccaneers took top honors in the season-opening Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational and posted a fourth place finish at the MASCAC Championships under first-year Head Coach Chris Slattery this fall.
