MacVarish Leads Men's Cross Country To Sixth Place Overall Finish At Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass.--  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams tuned up for the upcoming MASCAC championships with solid performances at the Emmanuel Saints Invitational that was held at Franklin Park on Friday afternoon, as the Buccaneer men’s squad finished sixth overall while the Buccaneer women’s team placed 19th in a field of 22 teams competing in the event.

 

Junior Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) set the pace once again the men’s race for Massachusetts Maritime, as he covered the 8K layout in a time of 27:34 to finish 16th individually in a field of 203 runners.  Sophomore Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) was next in 28th place with a time of 28:14, while fellow sophomore Ryan McNeal (Canton, Ga.) followed in 43rd place with a time of 28:47.  Sophomore Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman Nathaniel Decker (Bellbrook, Ohio) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 54th and 60th place finishing times of 29:21 and 29:28, as Wentworth edged Norwich by six points (72-78) to take the team crown in the event, with Fitchburg State (84) finishing in the third place spot. 

 

Senior Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) led the way on the women’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, as she covered the 5K layout in a time of 24:02 to place 90th individually in a field of 201 competitors, while sophomore Lexy Halpin (Plymouth, Mass.) followed in 129th place with a time of 25:43.  Freshman Myat Smith (Sanford, Fla.) was next in 139th place with a time of 26:26, while sophomore Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and freshman Jaleni Rodriguez (Brandon, Fla.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with respective 154th and 165th place times of 27:23 and 28:49.  Host Emmanuel eked out a one point team triumph over Norwich (57-58) in claiming the top spot, while Endicott finished third with a team score of 84 points.

 

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will be idle until Saturday, October 31st when the Buccaneers head to Paxton, Mass. to compete for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference crowns at Moore State Park beginning at 11:00 a.m.
