Galvin's 10th Place Finish Lifts Men's Cross Country To Runner-Up Spot At Elms Blazer Invitational

CHICOPEE, Mass. --  Sophomore Robby Galvin’s (Woburn, Mass.) 10th place individual finish set the pace for the Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneers finished tied for second among 10 teams competing at the Elms Blazer Invitational at Chicopee Memorial State Park.  Junior Mara Footit (Wilbraham, Mass.) led the way for the Buccaneer women’s squad in competition, as she also finished 10th individually in lead Massachusetts Maritime to a ninth place performance in the final team standings.

 

Galvin covered the 8K layout in a time of 29:00 even in a field of 62 runners on the men’s side for Massachusetts Maritime, while junior Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) followed in 11th place with a time of 29:12.  Sophomores Ryan McNeal (Canton, Ga.) and Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) followed in 17th and 18th place with respective times of 30:21 and 30:22, while freshman Nathaniel Decker (Bellbrook, Ohio) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring in 21st place with a time of 30:58.  Trinity placed all of its scorers in the top seven to win the event with 19 points, with Massachusetts Maritime and Johnson & Wales each posting 67 points in the competition.

 

Footit covered the 6K layout in a time of 25:55.5 in a field of 81 competitors on the women’s side for the Buccaneers, while freshman Myat Smith (Sanford, Fla.) was next in 58th place with a time of 32:45.5.  Sophomore Kaylene Murphy (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior Amanda Subenko (Braintree, Mass.) followed in 66th and 72nd place with respective times of 34:33 and 38:12.5, while freshman Jaleni Rodriguez (Brandon, Fla.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with a 75th place finishing time of 38:53.7.  Trinity also took top team honors in the women’s competition with a score of 21 points, as the Bantams bested runner-up Lesley (97) and third-place Saint Joseph (Conn.).

 

The Massachusetts Maritime women’s team will head to Lincoln, R.I. next Saturday afternoon to compete at the CCRI Tri-State Invitational beginning at Noon, while the Buccaneer men’s squad will be idle until competing at the Westfield State James Earley Invitational on Saturday, October 10th in Westfield, Mass. that begins at 11:00 a.m.
