BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Robby Galvin (Woburn, Mass.) took top individual honors in leading host Massachusetts Maritime to its second straight team title at the 11th Annual Lt. Travis J. Fuller Men’s Cross Country Invitational alongside the Cape Cod Canal on campus Saturday morning.

 

Galvin, who was the runner-up in last year’s event, posted a time of 28:23 over the 8K layout in leading the Buccaneers to the crown with 22 points, as junior Jake MacVarish (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore Ryan McNeal (Canton, Ga.) finished in the runner-up and third place spots with times of 29:10 and 29:26, respectively.  Sophomore Chris MacKay (Bethany, Conn.) and freshman Nathaniel Decker (Bellbrook, Ohio) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with respective seventh and ninth place times of 31:02 and 31:38, as the hosts captured their third team title overall in the race’s history.

 

Emerson finished in the runner-up spot in the team standings with 56 points, as the Lions were paced by junior Mike O’Connor (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Matthew Benson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who recorded respective fourth and fifth place finishes of 29:38 and 30:44.  Newbury was next in third place with 70 points, as freshman Josh Gallup (Mayfield, N.Y.) and junior Chris Beaudoin (Bristol, Conn.) notched respective sixth and 10th place finishes of 30:53 and 32:08 for the Nighthawks, while junior Greg Whitney’s (Henniker, N.H.) eighth place individual time of 31:38 enabled Eastern Nazarene to round out the team scoring, as the Crusaders collected 87 points.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Biddeford, Maine next Saturday morning to compete in the University of New England Invitational that begins at 11:30 a.m.
