FINAL:                   MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 11, REGIS 7

WESTON, Mass. --  Freshman Anthony Kurylak (Rye, N.H.) netted four goals, while senior John Hojnoski (West Springfield, Mass.) added a hat trick and an assist to lead Massachusetts Maritime to an 11-7 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Regis Wednesday evening at Regis Stadium.

The two teams played a back-and-fourth affair in the opening 19:57 of action before sophomore Adam Palilonis (Hightstown, N.J.) gave the visiting Buccaneers (5-8, 1-3 Pilgrim) the lead for good with 3:33 remaining in the half and a 6-5 edge at the break, and Massachusetts Maritime added two more tallies in the opening 10:03 after intermission off the sticks of Kurylak and Hojnoski to take an 8-5 advantage with 4:57 to play in the third quarter.  The host Pride (4-11, 0-6 Pilgrim) sliced that margin back to one with a pair of markers off the sticks of junior Billy Stewart (West Roxbury, Mass.) and freshman Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) that came in a 52 second span to end the stanza, but the Buccaneers iced their triumph with three unanswered goals in the opening 8:19 of the final frame, including a pair from sophomore Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.), in running their winning streak to three straight.

Prowse added a pair of assists to finish with four points for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker and helper from sophomore Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) and an assist from freshman Sean Staples (Norwell, Mass.).  Rodrigo notched a hat trick and an assist in the setback for Regis, which also received a hat trick from Stewart to go with a tally and two helpers from junior Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.).  Sophomores Nick Dallas (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.), along with freshman Andrew O’Reilly (Hollis, N.H.), also chipped in with assists on the night for the Pride.

Junior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a 10-save effort, while junior Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) made five stops in the setback for Regis as the Buccaneers outshot the Pride by a 41-33 margin for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Norton, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Wheaton in a Pilgrim Lacrosse League match that begins at 1:00 p.m., while tonight’s contest closed out the 2013 schedule for Regis.
