BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Peter Christiansen’s (Seattle, Wash.) goal with 1:10 remaining in overtime capped a six-goal comeback in the final 8:36 of action that lifted Clark to a 12-11 Pilgrim Lacrosse League victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Cougars (6-3, 1-1 Pilgrim) trailed by an 11-6 margin with 6:03 remaining after senior John Hojnoski (West Springfield, Mass.) had capped a five-goal run by the host Buccaneers (2-6, 0-2 Pilgrim) that snapped a 6-6 third quarter deadlock.  Christiansen and freshman Rob Holden (Longmeadow, Mass.) each netted a pair of goals in the closing 5:46 of action, as sophomore Keegan Callahan (Tewksbury, Mass.) forced the extra session with an unassisted marker that came with eight seconds remaining in regulation.  Both teams had a pair of possessions in the overtime period before Christiansen netted the golden goal from six yards out.

Massachusetts Maritime controlled a slower tempo in the opening 18-plus minutes of play, as Hojnoski’s goal with 3:23 remaining in the opening quarter held up until Clark responded with three unanswered scores, including man-up markers by Holden and junior Jeffrey Wasson (Buckhorn, Ont.), to take a two-goal edge en route to a 4-2 advantage at the break.  The Buccaneers took control in the first 3:10 after intermission with three unanswered tallies of their own to take a 5-4 lead on sophomore Drew Prowse’s (Wakefield, Mass.) goal, but the Cougars evened matters on freshman Jacob Maselek’s (Marblehead, Mass.) man-up goal just 59 seconds later.  The two teams traded tallies before Prowse sparked the hosts’ run of five straight in a 10-minute stretch that saw Massachusetts Maritime take its 11-6 lead, setting up Clark’s comeback and Christiansen’s heroics.

Holden led the way with four goals and an assist for five points on the night for Clark, while Christiansen and Wasson each collected hat tricks and three assists for six points for the Cougars, who also received a marker and helper from Maselek.  Prowse netted a hat trick in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of goals and two assists from sophomore Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.) as well as a goal and an assist from freshman Sean Staples (Norwell, Mass.).  Freshman Anthony Kurylak (Rye, N.H.) collected five assists for the Buccaneers, who also received single tallies off the sticks of junior Stephen Ferro (South Deerfield, Mass.) and freshmen C.J. Hanson (Melrose, Mass.) and Nicholas Defuria (Succasanna, N.J.).

Junior Kevin Ranta (Beverly, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Clark with an eight-save effort, while junior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) made 11 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime as the Buccaneers outshot the Cougars by a 37-28 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Clark hosts Plymouth State in a non-league match on Wednesday evening in Worcester, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
