FINAL:              REGIS 15, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 10

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) notched a hat trick and three assists for six points to lead Regis to a 15-10 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Pride (3-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 20-plus minutes of play on the strength of two goals from sophomore Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.), and after senior Ashley Solari’s (Sandwich, Mass.) free position conversion with 4:24 remaining in the half got the host Buccaneers (0-2) on the board, Regis netted three goals, including a pair off the stick of sophomore Emily Kosak (Milton, Mass.), in the final 94 seconds before intermission to take a 7-1 edge at the break.  Massachusetts Maritime scored four of the first five goals of the second half, including two by junior Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) in a 2:11 span, to pull back to within three at 8-5 with just over 24 minutes remaining, but Regis iced its triumph with four unanswered markers in just under six minutes of action, as sophomore Taylor Assarian (Arlington, Mass.) capped the run with 17:48 to play to give the visitors their largest advantage of the night at 12-5.  The Buccaneers crept back to within the final margin on two occasions in the final 15-plus minutes of play, but goals by Anselmo, junior Nicole Roche (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Bridget Dowling (Hanover, Mass.) late in the contest sealed the Pride’s victory.

Assarian and Cattaruzza each added hat tricks and an assist for four points in the win for Regis, while Kosak collected a pair of helpers to also finish with four points.  Roche netted two markers and picked up an assist as well for the Pride, who also received a goal from freshman Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) and an assist off the stick of sophomore Malorie Kiehl (Burlington, Mass.).  Hunt notched a hat trick and two assists for five points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two tallies and a pair of helpers from senior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Solari and fellow senior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) collected two goals each for the Buccaneers, who received a single tally from freshman Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.) and an assist off the stick of junior Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.).

Junior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) picked up her second win of the season by making three first half saves in goal for Regis, which also received seven second half stops from freshman Olivia Maggio (West Windsor, N.J.).  Junior Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made 12 saves in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Pride outshot the Buccaneers by a 31-21 margin overall (27-20 on goal) and forced 24 turnovers on the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Wednesday, March 15th when the Buccaneers head to New London, Conn. to take on Coast Guard in a non-league match beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Regis hosts Simmons on Tuesday evening in a non-league outing in Weston, Mass. that begins at 6:00 p.m.
