NORTH ADAMS, Mass. --  Senior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) collected her 100th career point with five goals and an assist to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 16-8 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over MCLA Saturday afternoon at Shewcraft Field.

 

The visiting Buccaneers (1-8, 1-4 MASCAC) also received five tallies and a helper from junior Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) in presenting rookie Head Coach Marc Palombo with his first career win, as Massachusetts Maritime snapped a 2-2 tie with three goals in the final 1:40 of the opening half to take a 5-2 advantage at the break.  The Buccaneers took control of the contest by netting the first five tallies (all by Hunt and Solari) after intermission to grab a 10-2 edge with 22:32 remaining in the match, and after the host Trailblazers (3-9, 0-5 MASCAC) sliced their deficit back to seven on a pair of occasions in midway through the second half, the visitors used three goals in a 7:17 span to take their largest lead of the day (15-6) on Solari’s fifth score with 7:25 remaining to ice their triumph.

 

Solari joined Hunt as the only two players in the program’s six-year varsity intercollegiate history to top the 100-career point plateau, as Massachusetts Maritime also received freshman Heather Seggelin’s (Sharon, Mass.) first career hat trick in the victory.  Freshman Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.) added a pair of markers as well for the Buccaneers, who received a tally from senior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Sophomore Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.) chipped in with two assists for the winners, who received single helpers off the sticks of senior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) and junior Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.).

 

Freshman Kim Granito (Glenmont, N.Y.) netted four goals and an assist to finish with five points in the setback for MCLA, which received a pair of tallies and two assists from junior Mackenzie Cutler (East Amherst, N.Y.).  Senior Natalie Caney (Belchertown, Mass.) added a marker and helper as well for the Trailblazers, who received a single assist from senior Rachel Green (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.).

 

Junior Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with a 10-save effort for Massachusetts Maritime, while sophomore Zoe Elwell (Clifton Park, N.Y.) made 12 stops in the setback for MCLA as the Buccaneers outshot the Trailblazers by a 35-21 margin overall and held a 16-10 edge in draw controls in winning for the third time in as many series meetings between the two schools.

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Monday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 8:00 p.m., while MCLA heads to Westfield, Mass. on Wednesday evening for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference clash with Westfield State that begins at 7:00 p.m.
