Solari, Carpenter & Correia Named As 2017 Buccaneer Women's Lacrosse Tri-Captains

As the Massachusetts Maritime women’s lacrosse program continues preparations for the 2017 campaign, first year Head Coach Marc Palombo today named his captains for the Buccaneers’ sixth varsity season of competition.

Seniors Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Bourne), along with junior Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth), have been tabbed to serve as Massachusetts Maritime’s tri-captains this spring.  Palombo, a member of the Academy’s Athletic Hall of Fame, said that he “has had the privilege of watching Ashley, Kianna and Mikayla grow and develop both on and off the field over the last three years, and their leadership has helped our program grow over that time span.  I know they will fully engage their teammates in creating a positive example and work ethic that will drive us to achieving our goals going forward.”

Solari netted 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points in 2016, and she enters her final collegiate campaign just 11 points shy (58 goals, 31 assists) of the 100 career point plateau.  Carpenter has been a standout defender for the Buccaneers throughout her career, as she has collected 104 ground balls and caused 51 turnovers while amassing 10 points in 40 matches.  Correia has been a two-year starter in goal for Massachusetts Maritime, recording 265 saves in 27 career outings (including 134 a year ago) and posting eight overall victories along the way.

The Buccaneers begin the Marc Palombo era on Saturday, March 4th by hosting UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing at Clean Harbors Stadium at Noon EST.
