Crew Squads Post Pair Of Top Six Performances At UMass Lowell

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams posted solid performances in competition on the Merrimack River on Saturday afternoon, as the Buccaneers were matched up in three races against squads from Bowdoin, Brandeis, Bryant, Franklin Pierce, UConn and host UMass Lowell.

 

The men’s varsity four comprised of freshman coxswain Sophia Segatore (Plymouth, Mass.), senior Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.), junior Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.), sophomore Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.) and freshmen Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 6:47.9, while the women’s varsity four comprised of sophomore coxswain Jillian Stronk (Cheshire, Conn.), senior Gretchen Kramer (Stafford, Va.), juniors Melanie Holder (Calidonio, Panama) and Janeen Manghis along with sophomore Jessie Goodhue (Hyde Park, Mass.) finished sixth with a time of 9:34.3, as Bowdoin took top honors in both races.

 

The men’s novice four comprised of freshman coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.) and freshmen Adam Butters (Gales Ferry, Conn.), Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), Eric DeMarines (Pepperell, Mass.) and Brody Forbes (Hanson, Mass.) placed third in the event with a time of 7:05.4, as UMass Lowell won the competition by two seconds over Bowdoin.

 

Massachusetts Maritime will compete next Saturday morning on Lake Quinsigamond against Amherst, Bowdoin, Connecticut College and host Clark beginning at 9:00 a.m., and the Buccaneers will head back to Lowell, Mass. on Sunday, April 28th for a regatta with UMass Lowell that also begins at 9:00 a.m.
