Women's Crew Novice Eight Takes Top Honors At New Hampshire Championships

PEMBROKE, N.H.--  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew teams enjoyed a high level of success during competition at the New Hampshire Championships on Sunday morning, as the Buccaneer women’s novice eight took top honors while the Buccaneer men’s open eight posted a runner-up finish on the day.

Massachusetts Maritime’s women’s novice eight, which was comprised by sophomore coxswain Kaleigh Miller (Rockland, Mass.) along with freshmen Sara Petriella (Hull, Mass.), Michaela Curtin, Cassandra Swanson (Quincy, Mass.), Sarah Lewis (Deer Park, Ill.), Amanda Subenko (Braintree, Mass.), Cassie Sanderson (North Dighton, Mass.), Sophia Segatore (Plymouth, Mass.) and Jenna Breault, posted a winning time of 23:36.40, while Endicott took the runner-up spot with a time of 24:40.71.

The Buccaneer men’s open eight “A” boat consisting of freshman coxswain James Belbin (Carver, Mass.), sophomore Ian Monfils (Hanson, Mass.) and freshmen Peter MacDonald (North Dighton, Mass.), Brody Forbes (Hanson, Mass.), Evan Nolan (Kingston, Mass.), Andrew Balmaceda (Fairfax, Va.), Eric DeMarines (Pepperell, Mass.), Christopher Roach (West Wareham, Mass.) and Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) finished second with a time of 18:07.59, while the men’s open eight “B” boat consisting of freshman coxswain Nicholas Laroche (Westfield, Mass.) and fellow freshmen Hugh Largey (Raynham, Mass.), Edward Munch (Gales Ferry, Conn.), Lawson Bundrant (Shoreline, Wash.), Adam Butters (Gales Ferry, Conn.), Kyle Downing, Judson Yerkes (West Barnstable, Mass.), Jeremy Heinrich (Atlanta, Ga.) and Connor Corsi (Three Rivers, Mass.) finished fourth with a time of 21:47.07.

Both Massachusetts Maritime entries in the men’s open four posted fourth and fifth place respective finishes in competition, as the “A” boat comprised of sophomore coxswain John Hubert (Trumbull, Conn.), seniors Josh Lamm (North Andover, Mass.) and Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.) as well as juniors Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.) and Maxwell Horton (Malden, Mass.) posted a fourth place time of 17:25.41, while the “B” entry consisting of senior coxswain Lauren Denapoli (Boston, Mass.), sophomores Ryan Gilliland (Barnstable, Mass.) and Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.) and freshmen Gerard Juliano (Duxbury, Mass.) and Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 17:42.06.

Both Buccaneer squads will be in action next weekend at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass.
