Men's Crew Takes Top Varsity Four Honors In Six Team Competition At Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime crew squads returned to Lake Quinsigamond for the second straight week on Sunday, as the Buccaneers posted solid performances in races against Bryant, Endicott, Franklin Pierce, Roger Williams and host Assumption.

 

The men’s varsity four comprised of coxswain Timothy Matchett, senior Matthew Mourey (Franklin, Mass.), junior Alex Jagielski (Guilford, Conn.), sophomore Liam Barry (Wellesley, Mass.) and freshmen Ryan Skavis (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took top honors with a time of 7:41.1 in besting runner-up Endicott by over five seconds, while the women’s varsity four comprised of senior coxswain Lauren DeNapoli (Boston, Mass.), senior Gretchen Kramer (Stafford, Va.), junior Melanie Holder (Calidonio, Panama and freshmen Brenda Weeks (Bourne, Mass.) and Charlene Klangos finished sixth with a time of 10:03.3, as Bryant took top honors in the women’s race.

 

The men’s novice four comprised of coxswain Christopher Dwyer and freshmen Adam Butters (Gales Ferry, Conn.), Andrew Murphy (Randolph, Mass.), Eric DeMarines (Pepperell, Mass.) and Brody Forbes (Hanson, Mass.) placed third in the event with a time of 9:51.4, as Roger Williams avenged a setback in the same race to the Buccaneers from the previous weekend.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Lowell, Mass. next Saturday morning to take on Bowdoin, Franklin Pierce, Wentworth and host UMass Lowell in competition on the Merrimack River beginning at 9:00 a.m.
