BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Ted Powers (Marshfield, Mass.) scored five goals to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 14-10 victory over Emerson in the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse season finale for both teams Monday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The host Buccaneers (5-9, 1-6 NEWMAC) jumped out to a 6-1 first quarter advantage on the strength of two tallies by Powers, and after the visiting Lions (4-9, 0-7 NEWMAC) closed back to within four on senior Austin Max’s (Nashville, Tenn.) man-up marker early in the second stanza, Massachusetts Maritime used three goals in the final 6:22 of the half to take a 10-3 lead at the break.  The hosts took an eight-goal lead (13-5) into the final 15 minutes of play before Emerson used three unanswered tallies to close back to within five on a Max marker, but Powers closed out the Buccaneer scoring just 1:09 later to push that margin back to six, as the visitors accounted for the final margin with a pair of goals in the final 3:33 of play.

Freshman Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass.) added a hat trick and an assist in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a pair of tallies and two assists from junior Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) to go with two goals and a helper from senior Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.).  Sophomore Ben Barattini (Osterville, Mass.), along with freshmen Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass.) and Michael O’Brien (Marshfield, Mass.), also tallied on the night for the Buccaneers, who also received three assists from senior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.).  Sophomore Sean Flaherty (South Weymouth, Mass.) chipped in with two helpers for the hosts, who received single assists off the sticks of sophomore Jake O’Riordan (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Nolan Delano (Billerica, Mass.).

Sophomore Jared Brush (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) netted four goals and an assist for five points in the setback for Emerson, which received a hat trick from Max along with two tallies and six assists for eight points from sophomore Cameron Radenberg (Los Angeles, Calif.).  Freshman Taelon Ratliff (La Jolla, Calif.) added a marker on the night for the Lions, who received a single helper off the stick of sophomore Marshall Tate (Taunton, Mass.).

Sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) picked up his fifth win of the season in goal with five first half saves for Massachusetts Maritime, while sophomore Jeffrey Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) and freshman Samuel Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) combined for three second half stops for the hosts.  Sophomore Bailey Kennedy (Swampscott, Mass.) made nine saves in the setback for Emerson, as the Buccaneers outshot the Lions by a 41-29 margin overall (23-18 on goal) and forced 18 turnovers for the contest.
