Collins, Kearney, McNeill, Plotnikiewicz & McCarthy Named As 2017 Buccaneer Men's Lacrosse Captains

With the start of the 2017 Massachusetts Maritime men’s lacrosse season just over a month away, Head Coach Rory Deegan today announced that five members of his senior class will serve as team captains for his seventh season at the helm of the Buccaneers.

Seniors Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional), Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass./Boston College), Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass./Burlington), Alec Plotnikiewicz (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) and Marshall McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) have been tabbed as the “fab five” to lead the way for Massachusetts Maritime this spring.  The quartet is described by their coach as “incredibly gifted leaders both on the field and in the regiment.  They have distinguished themselves by achieving excellence in their studies, by making a difference in the community and by setting examples to emulate in competition.  They have raised the bar even higher and will continue to set a high standard of achievement that our program strives to attain each and every day.”

McNeill appeared in all 17 matches for Massachusetts Maritime in 2016 and netted seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points, while Kearney collected three tallies and a helper for four points in 16 match appearances that included 13 starts.  Collins provides a veteran presence after appearing in 16 contests and chipping in with an assist a year ago, while Plotnikiewicz and McCarthy comprise the backbone of the Buccaneer defensive unit after each appeared in all 17 outings last spring and amassed 44 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers between them.

In all, the five Massachusetts Maritime captains have combined to play in nearly 200 matches during their careers with 49 goals and 49 assists for 98 points.  The Buccaneers begin the 2017 campaign on Saturday, March 4th by hosting Albertus Magnus in a non-league match at Clean Harbors Stadium at 3:00 p.m. EST.
