FINAL:              COAST GUARD 15, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 6

NEW LONDON, Conn. --  Freshman Riley McNulty (Arnold, Md.) scored four goals and added four assists for eight points to lead Coast Guard to a 15-6 New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Cadet Memorial Field.

McNulty scored three goals in the opening 26 minutes of action to give the host Bears (10-5, 4-2 NEWMAC) a 7-2 advantage, but markers by senior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Barattini (Osterville, Mass.) in the final 2:24 of the half pulled the visiting Buccaneers (4-8, 0-5 NEWMAC) back to within three at 7-4.  The two teams traded a pair of tallies each in the first 6:40 after intermission, and McNulty’s man-up goal midway through the third stanza sparked six unanswered scores that iced Coast Guard’s triumph.

Sophomore Anthony Wyler (Fulton, Md.) added two goals and two assists for four points in the win for the Bears, who received a pair of tallies and a helper from sophomore Jack Pope (San Diego, Calif.).  Sophomore Cole Hudson (Sparks, Md.) also collected two goals for the Coast Guard, which received single tallies from sophomores Ian Logan (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Connor Ellis (Arnold, Md.) as well as freshmen Ryan Gochar (Clarksville, Md.), Logan Morin (Norwich, Conn.) and Liam Middleton (Dover, N.H.).

McNeill and Barattini each netted two goals in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received tallies from freshman Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass.) and Casey Fisher (Nashua, N.H.) and an assist off the stick of freshman Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass.).  Juniors TJ Varley (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Matt Huemme (Sherborn, Mass.) notched assists on the night for Coast Guard, as sophomore Trey Johnson (Millersville, Md.) picked up the win in goal for the hosts with three saves in 51-plus minutes of play.  Freshman Charles McAllister (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made four stops in nearly nine minutes of action for the Bears, while sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) made 12 saves in the setback for the Buccaneers as Coast Guard outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 58-22 margin overall (27-13 on goal) and held a 20-5 advantage in the face-off circle for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Norton, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Wheaton in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Coast Guard entertains Babson in a NEWMAC clash on Saturday afternoon at Cadet Memorial Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
