Bartley Collects Career-High Seven Points As Men's Lacrosse Notches 16-6 Season Opening Victory Over Albertus Magnus

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Junior Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.) netted three goals and four assists for a career-high seven points as Massachusetts Maritime opened its 2017 season with a 16-6 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Albertus Magnus Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
The host Buccaneers (1-0) raced out to a 9-0 halftime advantage and scored the first 12 goals of the contest in their lid-lifter, as freshman Benjamin Avakian (Bourne, Mass.) collected a hat trick and three assists for six points in his collegiate debut for the winners. Senior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) added a hat trick and an assist as well for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of goals from sophomore Brendan Kelly (Drexel Hill, Pa.) along with a marker and helper from fellow sophomore Zack O’Brien (Lakeville, Mass.). Sophomores Ben Barattini (Osterville, Mass.) and Kenny Parnell (Marshfield, Mass.), along with freshman Michael O’Brien (Marshfield, Mass.) and Casey Fisher (Nashua, N.H.), tallied on the day for the Buccaneers, who received two assists from sophomore Cody Livermore (Ludlow, Mass.) and single helpers off the sticks of junior Bobby Macarthy (Winchester, Mass.) and freshman Franklin Ragge (Scituate, Mass.).
Senior Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to finish with three points in the setback for the visiting Falcons (1-2), who also received a pair of tallies off from junior Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.). Senior Matt Mueller (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore James May (Branford, Conn.) collected goals as well for Albertus Magnus, which received two assists from senior Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) and a single helper off the stick of senior Jon Gravius (Howell, N.J.).
Sophomore Michael Dolan (McLean, Va.) earned his first career victory in goal with an eight-save effort of the first three quarters of action for Massachusetts Maritime, while junior Jack Kerner (Merrick, N.Y.) made 19 stops between the pipes in the setback for Albertus Magnus. The Buccaneers outshot the Falcons by a 52-23 margin overall (35-14 on goal) and forced 30 turnovers on the afternoon in claiming their fourth win in as many series meetings between the two schools.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Portland, Maine on Tuesday afternoon to take on Saint Joseph’s (Maine) in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m., while Albertus Magnus entertains Wheelock in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Conn. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
